I was born with an uneven breast. Can you help me?

Woman with arms open wide

Lopsided and uneven breasts can do significant damage to the self esteem of women, but the fact is just about every woman has one breast slightly smaller or larger than the other. Currently over 45% of women have one breast that is a half cup or larger than the other breast. How did they become uneven? Here is are some possibilities.

1. Breastfeeding a Child

It doesn’t matter how much you try to feed the baby evenly from both breasts, the child will often prefer one over the other. The end result, one of the breasts will stretch and appear uneven as time passes. The appearance of the larger breast can last long after breastfeeding has been completed.

2. The Alignment of the Body

The fat deposits and muscles in the body tend to become more evenly distributed when the body is in perfect alignment. The truth however is that during a persons life, sleeping positions, disease, injuries, stress, and posture, will cause the alignment of the body change. The over-development of the muscles will cause the fat tissues in the breasts to appear uneven.

3. Left or Right Hand Dominance

Depending on whether a woman is left or right handed, the larger of the two breasts is usually on the same side of the dominant hand. This is a direct result of the muscles on that side of the body being used more frequently throughout the day.

4. Hormonal Imbalance

The uneven breasts can be attributed to estrogen levels in adolescent girls. Soon after menstruation, the breasts will begin to develop and can easily develop fuller on one side of the body.

What can you do about it.

If the breasts are different sizes due to the body being out of alignment, visiting a chiropractor who can put you on a program that will help to balance the body can have dramatic results. If the problem is a result of the dominant side getting more muscle tone, exercise the other side of the body more frequently.

If the difference in size is significant, perhaps due to a birth defect, then a custom fitted breast prosthesis will help restore your sense of confidence and completeness.
